Before I met my husband, I spent about five years as a single mom. Oh, I had boyfriends and dates here and there but nothing serious. At about the five year mark of my divorce, I started to believe that I would spend the rest of my life alone. And to make things even worse, I’d been going through what one might call a dry spell.
No dates.
No phone calls.
Nothing.
Being a Christian, I wasn’t going to meet someone in a bar or some crazy place like that (and really, how long do we expect those relationships last anyway?). I was an adult finishing my degree in Medical Assisting, and I spent a lot of time at the gym.
School. Gym. Church. That was where I went. That was what I did.
How I met my husband on Christian Mingle
In a bit of desperation, I decided to create an account on Christian Mingle. There had to be tons of great guys on there, right?
Like I said, I had given up on finding the one and was really just looking for someone to take me out to dinner.
Very slowly I went through the steps of creating an account. Finding pictures that actually looked like me was the hardest part. Once that bit was done, it was time to peruse!
I was a member of Christian Mingle for all of two days before spotting a gorgeous Brazilian man by the name of Renato who happened to live less than 10 miles away. He was so handsome and exotic. I can still see his profile picture in my mind. He had a giant fish tank behind him and he was wearing very sexy glasses. Yes, I just called a pair of glasses sexy.
Swallowing my pride and taking a leap of courage, I contacted him. The next day he responded and we exchanged phone numbers. Our first phone conversation lasted 8 hours!!!
We met in person the following day. We met at Starbucks, went to a library, got some ice cream, went to a cookout (with his family!) and that evening went salsa dancing.
I was smitten.
We met June 9th, 2010 and got married on October 2nd of the same year.
This year will be our 5th anniversary.
In four short years we have had three children, and who knows, maybe we will have more. 🙂
I always enjoy telling our story when the how-we-met talks come up with my friends. While we aren’t the only success story from Christian Mingle, our story is unique.
*2018 Update
We’ve been married for eight years now and are still going strong! And we did end up having one more child after this original post, for a total of four . . . for now 🙂 We’ve been homeschooling for seven years, moved to the country, and are still very much in love. I found my best friend and the answer to a lot of prayers the day I spotted this hunk.
