As a homeschool mom, you want to have everything you could possibly need to keep the kids happy and healthy. But as the old adage goes, “If mama isn’t happy, no one is happy.” These essentials were picked with you in mind.
Read on for 5 essentials for the family home.

A Dishwasher
Some people find washing dishes therapeutic, but I sure don’t. In fact, washing the dishes has caused many arguments over the years. Having a dishwasher cuts down on arguments and the time it takes to get the dishes done.
It also enables younger children to help. Three-year-olds can’t do the dishes, but they can unload a dishwasher!
Two Bathrooms
Depending on how many family members you have, having just one bathroom can cause a lot of problems. Somebody needs the toilet, somebody needs a shower, and one person is just trying to brush their teeth in peace.
Having an ensuite attached to the master bedroom, plus an extra bathroom for children and guests can definitely help your family avoid confrontation and arguments early on in the morning – or just about any time of day.
However, with more bathrooms comes more responsibility. You need to make sure that they are always maintained and working properly, so ensure you have some of the best plumbers on hand to help you out if you experience a problem.
A Private Space
Each member of the family should have their own private space where they can go to get away from it all. For your kids, it’ll be their bedrooms.
For you, it may be a study or even a nook where you can relax with a good book and cup of coffee.
Hot Water And Solar Power
Installing solar energy units in your family home might sound like an unnecessary expense, but it can actually help you to save money in the long run. Solar hot water units can heat up water very quickly and store it with little heat loss, ensuring your family has all the water they need all day long.
It takes just a few short years for your solar powered panels to pay for themselves.
Indoor Plants And Flowers
You probably have plants and flowers in your gardens, but they can also add color and texture to your interior. They make great decorations, but they also purify the air in the most natural way imaginable.
The peace lily and similar flowers absorb pollutants from the air and require minimal sunlight, making them ideal plants to include in your home. Just make sure that the kids and any pets can’t knock them over as they play, and do your research on various options so you don’t end up buying something that will set off allergies or be dangerous.
Bonus: Clean Drinking Water
But doesn’t every home in first-world countries have this? Well, you would think that would be the case, but surprisingly enough, it’s not nearly as common as it should be. Have you ever noticed that Brita water filters and those faucet water filters are constantly advertised left and right? Well, those aren’t just for being extra cautious; they’re just being cautious in general because of how surprisingly common bad drinking water is. You can buy water testing kits just to see if your water is safe or not for drinking.
Unfortunately, many water companies out there aren’t as good as American Water. So many care more for profits, meaning poor infrastructure, lack of transparency, and even more negligence. Again, it’s about taking shortcuts to make profits. It’s a harsh reality that a lot of us deal with, and most people have no idea about it either. So, make sure you do what you can to have safe drinking water.
