
Being that my husband is from Brazil, he has equal parts of Latin and Italian roots. What does that mean? It means we eat a whole lot of black beans and rice and a whole lot of pasta. Pretty much every meal around here has one of those two as an accompaniment.
Since today is National Pasta Day, let’s focus on the pasta!

A brief history of pasta in the United States
Would you believe that Thomas Jefferson helped make pasta popular in the United States? During a stay in Paris (1784-1789), Jefferson ate some pasta that he called macaroni. . . but it could have been any shape of pasta then.
He enjoyed the dish so much that he brought two cases with him back to the states. But it wasn’t until the late 19th century, when some immigrants relocated from Italy to America, that pasta truly became a common food here in the states. Read more about the history of pasta at The History Kitchen.
